Ascension Parish Regionalization Project (APRP)

Sewer System Rehabilitation

Background

The Ascension Parish Sewer Regionalization Project is a solution to a critical infrastructure problem that has plagued Ascension Parish for decades – decentralized sewer. Central sewer service is not available in the parish, and the current system of scattered package treatment plants treat raw sewerage in residential neighborhoods, are discharging treated water into ditches and local waterways which have become environmentally impaired over the years.

NWI’s solution to this decades old infrastructure problem has received approvals and widespread support from the citizens of Ascension Parish, the Louisiana Public Service Commission, La. DEQ, as well as the Ascension Parish Government. The APRP requires no investment by the Parish and in 2024, NWI paid the parish $9.26 million to purchase the parish's sewer assets. The project will result in over $4.1 million in annual savings for the parish in funds previously allocated toward sewer, and long term, the parish could gain $73.2 million over the next 30 years.
